As a base model, my klr 650 doesn't come with engine guards, so I'm looking to add them. With no experience in that, I'm looking for recommendations, preferably from people who have fitted them and tested that they protect as they should

My ol' pal low-sided his KLR on a gravel road with Tusk guards, and they did their job, saving his engine cases from getting chewed up. When you're looking, make sure the guards you choose are designed specifically for your KLR model year for a proper fit.

Adding engine guards to your KLR 650 is definitely a good idea for extra protection. Brands like SW-Motech and Barkbusters get a lot of love from riders who've tested them in real crashes. Checking out some rider reviews or videos can help you pick the right ones.

I went with Tusk crash bars on my '22 KLR after my brother tipped his bike and they held up great. Install was beginner-friendly with basic tools, and they've already saved my plastics on a slow drop during a trail ride
